Kiilto Pro Debond adhesive

Kiilto is a Finnish family-owned company that develops, manufactures and markets solutions for the chemical industry. Kiilto contributes to a better built environment in the SUPER Healthy Buildings ecosystem. Kiilto’s Debonding on Demand technology enables the implementation of a circular economy in the built environment.

What kind of product is it?

Kiilto’s innovative Kiilto Pro Debond adhesive forms a strong and durable bond that can be easily removed when needed. For example, controlled removal of ceramic tiles is possible using heat. This opens up new possibilities for repairing and renewing bathrooms and other tiled spaces.

The removable adhesive bond utilizes Debonding on Demand technology, which enables more efficient recycling and reuse of materials. The technology is already in commercial use in the furniture industry for replacing textile upholstery and laminate coatings.

How is this solution related to circular economy?

Debonding on Demand technology facilitates surface repair and reuse of materials, as the adhesive bond can be broken down using heat without damaging the surface material. This makes the reuse of materials easier and extends their life cycle. Repairing structures and reusing materials reduces waste and saves new raw materials, time and money.

A pilot column built using Kiilto’s Debonding on Demand technology can be seen in the showroom of the ARKI 135 Circular Hub. The ceramic tiles are attached with Kiilto Pro Debond adhesive, from which they can be easily removed using heat.
